Sydney Processing Centre

Sydney Processing Centre

The Sydney Processing Centre is a high-security data centre that reimagines an ageing communications facility into a sustainable, future-focused hub for digital infrastructure.

We are proud to acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the Traditional Custodians of the Country on which the Sydney Processing Centre is located. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture.

With studios in Sydney and Melbourne, Genton designs secure digital infrastructure including high-performance data centres and mission-critical environments across APAC. While many of our projects remain confidential, the Sydney Processing Centre exemplifies this expertise, transforming an ageing communications facility into a robust, sustainable data centre through the redesign of office spaces, security zones and key technical infrastructure.

The Sydney Processing Centre project transforms an ageing communications facility into a state-of-the-art data processing centre through the redesign of office spaces, meeting rooms, amenities, lobbies, security facilities and surrounding urban area- for a secure mission critical facility.

Through an integrated design approach Genton successfully challenged conventional engineering wisdom; transforming inefficient, generic industry standards into a highly sustainable and robust facility – both fit for functional purpose and enjoyable to work in. The team reconsidered technical requirements from first principles, pushing the limitations generally put on data processing centres.

Genton was involved on every aspect of the project working alongside stakeholders on the planning of layout racks and cooling equipment through to colour coding major service pathways.

In the workspaces, timber was introduced as an overly to soften the existing brutalist concrete aesthetic. The spaces boast a warmth and atmosphere that is both fitting to the surroundings but also on par with more high-end office spaces.

In the technical spaces, Genton worked closely with the mechanical engineers to carefully direct airflow and reduce fan speeds, dramatically reducing energy consumption equivalent to removing 3,600 cars from the road.

The outcome is the complete redesign and upgrade of a large but neglected asset, into a significant contemporary office.
