Construction partner secured for Powerhouse Parramatta

We welcome Powerhouse Museum’s announcement that Lendlease has been awarded the contract to deliver Powerhouse Parramatta.

“This transformational project will amplify the cultural heart of Parramatta, while reconnecting city and river with vibrant and active public spaces. In contributing to the rich and diverse culture of Western Sydney, we look forward to working with Lendlease, MAAS, and iNSW, on the realisation of this once-in-a-generation cultural institution,” says Genton Principal Steven Toia.

Lendlease will build the museum, a design collaboration of Moreau Kusunoki and Genton, which will be the largest in NSW with over 18,000 square metres of exhibition and public space. The 6 Star Green Star rated building will comprise expansive exhibition spaces, including the largest column-free space in Australia.

“Powerhouse Parramatta will redefine the cultural landscape of Greater Sydney, NSW and Australia and the Powerhouse team and I are looking forward to collaborating with our communities, industry as well as our many partners as we embark on the construction of this remarkable building,” says Powerhouse Chief Executive Lisa Havilah.

Designed to be flexible, Powerhouse Parramatta will enable a dynamic and changing program for visitors with more than 2 million visitors expected in the first year of operation.

A feature of Powerhouse Parramatta will be The Academy which will support thousands of students from across regional NSW and Greater Sydney to stay at the museum and engage with immersive science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education programs.

Situated on the banks of the Parramatta River, Powerhouse Parramatta will be exceptionally well connected to public transport including the metro, light rail, ferries and bus services, and will form the cultural anchor of the Parramatta Civic Link which is currently in development.
