Garcon, Harold Park Tramsheds

Genton was commissioned to design the interior fit out for this iconic Sydney cafe and coffee roaster in collaboration with entrepreneur Edward Cutcliffe. The brief was to draw inspiration from the iconic Parisian bistro’s for which the city is famed.

Genton found this in the use of materials brass, brick and timber. The brass fortified the art deco theme, while providing a stylish contrast against the timbered walls and internal facades. The colour of the wood panelling was selected to harmonise with the sunlight flooding in from the heritage roof structure.

While Garcon features traditional hardware and fixtures, the space around it is flexible and agile. And aside from providing storage and additional floor space, the mezzanine offers an elevation giving unimpeded views from above the historic Tramsheds. The floorplan was designed based on a mixed-use functionality, from the ground up.
